Diposition of air series

Aske Sigurd Kraul's artistic works explore the nature of existence and our relationship with reality. Through a dialogue with concrete materials, he challenges our assumption of what is "real". Drawing on philosophical principles, Kraul examines the processes that shape our perception of the world, from the conscious to the unconscious. His works span both the image surface and three-dimensional space, weaving a narrative about the human experience of time. By juxtaposing historical perspectives with contemporary understandings, Kraul seeks to uncover new pathways for interpretation. Ultimately, his art invites visitors to engage with these stories on a visceral level, fostering a deeper sense of connection and understanding of the world.

mist of stars series

In Mist Of Stars-Series, (2022 - ongoing), I work with pigments on unprimed canvas, which are fixed with hareskin glue. In this series, the resolution of the two-dimensional surface is examined, which creates an indefinable depth through color surfaces and effect pigments. The colors in the effect pigments depend on the intensity and angle of the light, which is why the visual cannot be completely maintained, but is dependent on the viewer's position in relation to the work. Thus, the work changes slightly depending on where it is viewed from, and with this indefinable depth points to the fact that our experience is an interaction between what we experience and ourselves as the experiencing subject

some thoughts about my practise

My work production revolves around existence, both in relation to large philosophical understandings and in very specific situations. Through different series of works, I explore pain-ting as a medium, the inherent ability of materials to change, and the role of the artist in relation to the work.

As is the case with many of my processes and series of works, they all seek to point towards our own existence. The existence of an external shared world, the existence of our inner life, the existence of knowledge and understanding, and the existence of the concrete and the procedural. In other words, it is these conditions that I explore with my processes that produce the works, and what I try to point out and highlight with the works.
I want to create works that relate to our understanding of ourselves and the world as it appears to us, as living people who are constantly forming themselves, and are in continuous change. The uncontrolled is a technique I use proven to produce works where the material's own character provides the visual expression. Here, it is the change in the physical properties of the material that evokes the alive and present in the works. As the main focus on change and the uncontrolled, a time aspect naturally follows, and in the recognition that time, like everything else, is a constructed and constituting factor, I also use a temporal aspect in my work production. The eternity of the moment is, in its formulation, a paradox of possibilities. The fact that the works are either an expression of a snapshot, a process, or that the work is constantly changing, reflects precisely this paradox.
